Category:2010s Hindi-language filmsSwedish group Bondissens Råd (The Council for Bonding) will decide on Thursday whether to investigate a Saudi businessman who claimed he paid the family of a missing journalist to silence her.
The Swedish authorities want to know if the businessman tried to buy the silence of two Swedish citizens who had gone missing.
Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was murdered inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2.
On October 14, the businessman — whose name was removed from the list of those to be interrogated by police after he made the claims — was arrested in his apartment in connection with the Khashoggi case.
The business executive, who has been identified by Reuters as Saudi Arabia’s billionaire Prince Turki al-Faisal, said he met Khashoggi “a few times at various social gatherings.”
The Saudi government’s chief prosecutor Saud al-Mojeb has said that the journalist was killed inside the consulate after he entered the building on October 2.
Mojeb also said that the businessman did not provide any proof for his claim that he was responsible for the journalist’s death.
No video or audio recordings have emerged to corroborate the businessman’s claim that he met with Khashoggi.
Turkey’s two deputy prime ministers said on Thursday that the businessman made the allegation about Khashoggi’s death “under duress.”
“It was a claim of a person under pressure, it is not clear what kind of pressure,” Bekir Bozdag told CNN Turk broadcaster. “In any case, no such proof has been provided.”
The Saudi consul in Istanbul also said on Wednesday that he “has no idea of any such visit.”
The businessman also said he had met with Swedish citizen Kim Wall, who disappeared last year while she was aboard a submarine off the coast of Denmark on the same day as the journalist’s murder.
On Wednesday, Danish authorities said that they were investigating a new tip that Wall’s phone and wallet were found in a forest near the German border on October 1.
The police said that they had received information on the case on October 3, the day before Wall’s body was found. ac619d1d87
